By Cheryl Holloway
Families eyeing the start of the new school year can find free back-to-school supplies on Saturday, August 10th in PG County at Harley-Davidson of DC, 9407 Livingston Road, Ft. Washington from 11 am –Noon; and in the DC area at The Shops of Village Park on Alabama Avenue from 1-2pm.
Hundreds of book bags and other school supplies will be distributed during the events, hosted by a non-profit organization, A Tribe Called Queens, Inc., four Maryland women, who are entrepreneurs and change-makers. Organizers say they are providing everything from book bags, pen and pencils, notebooks, note papers, erasers, and the like to help cash-strapped parents ready their children for the 2019-2020 school year. They will provide backpacks filled with school supplies on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
All school-age children, elementary to high school, showing up for the events in Prince George’s County and the District of Columbia will have the tools to take on the new school year. Registration is not required.
A Tribe Called Queens, Inc. consists of four local women: Georgette, President; Justina, Vice President; Erica, Secretary; and Luana, Treasurer. Each of the women firmly believes in their mission statement: Dynamic women changing the world through love, faith, hope and empowerment. ‘We Are Our Sister’s Keepers!’
